Kyuhoji Ryokuchi (久宝寺緑地) is one of Osaka’s four major “Ryokuchi” (greenery) parks, spanning Yao City and Higashi-Osaka City. While it is a popular destination for cherry blossoms in spring and water play in summer, it is also a fantastic—yet surprisingly quiet—spot for autumn foliage.
Unlike the crowded temples in Kyoto or central Osaka, Kyuhoji Ryokuchi offers a serene atmosphere where you can enjoy ginkgo and metasequoia trees at your own pace. As of November 24th, the ginkgo trees have reached their peak, and the metasequoias are beginning their transformation into deep orange hues. For those seeking a peaceful autumn walk, this hidden gem is a must-visit.
Recommended Walking Route from Kyuhoji Station

The journey begins at JR Kyuhoji Station. From the North Exit, it is a straightforward 10-minute walk to the park’s East Area Entrance #1. The path is flat and easy to navigate, making it accessible for everyone.

As shown on the map, the park is vast. While the East and Central areas have great spots, the North Area (famous for its jogging course) is where you’ll find some of the most concentrated autumn colors. Let’s explore the highlights of each section.
Autumn Highlights in the East and Central Areas
Golden Ginkgos near the Skateboard Area

One of the first sights in the East Area is the skateboard area. The ginkgo trees here are currently at their peak, glowing with a brilliant golden light that looks stunning against a clear blue sky. It’s a great spot for action photography if you catch skaters under the autumn leaves!
The Unique Spade-Shaped Leaves of the Nanking Maple
Near the swimming pool area, I spotted a tree with striking, deep-red foliage. Upon closer inspection, the leaves had a very distinct shape.

These are the leaves of the Nanking Maple (Sapium sebiferum). Their spade-like shape makes them easily recognizable and fun to collect for autumn photos.
Scenic Views from Kyuhoji Bridge

Kyuhoji Bridge connects the East and Central areas. Walking across this bridge feels like passing through a corridor of colors, with trees lining both sides of the path below.
Contrast by the Baseball Field

The area surrounding the baseball field in the Central Area offers a beautiful gradient. You can see the transition of seasons here, with some trees still holding their lush green while others have turned a fiery red.
Exploring the North Area Jogging Course
Crossing the Kyuhoji Small Bridge brings you to the North Area, which is a favorite for local runners and walkers.
The Lavender and Pansy Flower Plaza

Even in autumn, the park is full of floral life. The Flower Plaza features a large circular bed filled with pansies and lavender. The purple tones provide a cool, elegant contrast to the warm autumn leaves nearby.
The 1,450m Autumn Walkway

The jogging course is 1,450 meters long and is mostly flat. It’s ideal for a leisurely walk while soaking in the seasonal atmosphere.
Towering Metasequoias at the Barbecue Area

Near the barbecue area, you’ll find the iconic metasequoia trees. While many in the park are still green, some have already turned a brilliant burnt orange. These tall, conical trees give the park a slightly European forest feel.
Family Moments at Yochiyochi Land

If you’re visiting with children, Yochiyochi Land is the place to be. It’s a playground surrounded by colorful foliage, allowing parents to enjoy the view while kids burn off some energy.
Facilities & Rest Stops
Kyuhoji Ryokuchi is well-equipped for visitors staying for several hours.
- Rest Areas: Numerous benches are scattered throughout the park, including several covered areas to protect you from the sun or a light drizzle.
- Toilets: There are 9 toilet blocks across the park, so you are never too far from a facility.
- Cafe (Sakura Coffee): Located directly on the jogging course, this popular cafe offers great sandwiches and coffee. It’s the perfect place to reward yourself after a walk. (Open 8:00 AM – 10:00 PM).
